Disclaimer: I do not have vegetarian dietary restrictions. Neither does anyone I regularly cook for. However, we do have dear friends with vegetarian nutritional needs and preferences.
Below is more information about what you can expect from our recipes tagged as vegetarian or vegetarian option.
Vegetarian
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary primarily defines a vegetarian simply as someone who does not eat meat. The definition further states that their diet consists of vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and sometimes eggs or dairy products. The Cambridge Dictionary elaborates on this adding that a vegetarian does not eat meat for health, religious, or moral reasons.
When it comes to our collection of recipes:
- these are the ingredients we consider part of a vegetarian diet:
- Eggs
- Dairy products
- these are the ingredients we do not consider part of a vegetarian diet:
- Chicken broth
- Beef broth
- Gelatin
- Lard
- if all the ingredients and instructions on the recipe card are vegetarian, then the recipe has a vegetarian tag.
- Any suggestions outside the recipe card, such as the Ingredient Recommendations, Ingredient Alternatives, or Pairings sections in the recipe blog post, may not be vegetarian.
In time, I plan to experiment with more ingredients and test more recipes to offer vegetarian versions of a recipe that would otherwise have the vegetarian option tag.
Vegetarian Option
The vegetarian option tag means that the recipe card is not vegetarian. Instead, the Ingredient Alternatives section of the recipe blog post includes a recommendation to make the recipe vegetarian.
Recipe Integrity
We do not sacrifice recipe integrity. Therefore, recipes that do not taste the same or better with vegetarian ingredient alternatives will not have either tag.
Of course, many recipes in our collection with the vegetarian tag are originally vegetarian. In other words, they are not a vegetarian spin on a meat-based recipe. Therefore, there is no concern for compromising recipe integrity.
Ultimately, I want any modifications to recipes shared here to resemble the original recipe’s intended taste and texture. It is my hope that members of the vegetarian community can trust that my recipes tagged as vegetarian, or vegetarian option, will be just as good as or better than any meat-based versions.
When it comes to vegetarian product knowledge, we are always learning and doing our best. We welcome and appreciate any feedback to continue to improve our vegetarian knowledge and efforts.
